An Introduction to Subtle Anatomy

You are more than meets the eye. Begin the process of understanding the nuances of your anatomy beyond bone and muscle, and shift from a top-down, mind-over-matter way of living to building a relationship with your whole self: body and breath, heart and spirit.

Subtle anatomy provides a system to deepen your awareness and understanding of yourself beyond the structure of the physical body that can be separated into individual parts. We will cover the basic concepts of subtle anatomy and demystify words like energy and chakras with concrete terms and practice for experiential learning.

You’ll get the chance to tie it all together in guided movement and meditation practices, clarifying how your new knowledge can be used to deepen self-awareness and act as a pathway to mindfulness.

Yoga Nidra

Slow down, switch off, and rest deeply in this evening session, available in the studio or on Zoom. We’ll start by moving gently with the breath to prepare the body and mind for a 30-minute Yoga Nidra session. Yoga Nidra is a guided meditation also known as yogic sleep that gives the body a chance to find equilibrium and where practitioners learn to float between sleep and wakefulness. During a typical session you’ll set an intention and then move through a guided body scan, breath awareness practice, and visualization. Yoga Nidra promotes better sleep and deep relaxation while providing the opportunity to draw awareness inward and connect with yourself compassionately.

Gillian turned to Yoga Nidra when she was experiencing insomnia and looking for better rest. Other forms of meditation felt like a struggle and Yoga Nidra was her gateway to mindfulness, as well as an aid to better sleep and self-awareness, and she is excited to be able to introduce the practice to others.

Meditation and Restorative Yoga (9/30)

In this workshop balancing lecture and practice, we will begin by introducing Dhyana (meditation) and learn where it is placed within the Eight Limbs of Yoga. We’ll explore the concepts of awareness, mindfulness, focus, and consciousness. We’ll discuss factors that impact your practice and learn different techniques to help you access meditation in a way that works for you. In the second half of the workshop, we’ll shift to Restorative Yoga, learning individual poses, how to create a short sequence, and ways to modify poses for comfort and accessibility. You’ll learn why Restorative Poses are sustained for longer periods, why we work to support the body completely, and how the nervous system responds to different elements in this approach to yoga. Finally, you’ll choose a restorative pose to rest in while following a guided meditation to close the session and tie it all together.

NERVOUS SYSTEM REBOOT: GET TO KNOW YOUR BREATH

Do you need a break? Treat your nervous system to a reboot in this daylong session. Move from outward to inward focus gradually, starting with breath practices and gentle movement and ending with a restorative practice to nourish and integrate all the parts of yourself.

Get to know your breath and all that it can do for you: acting as a guide to how you’re feeling, providing vitality and clarity, and giving you direct access to your nervous system. You’ll learn the basics of pranayama (breath work) so that you have the tools to regulate your nervous system up or down as needed, working toward a state of balance called relaxed awareness.

We’ll explore the mechanics of the breath and weave yoga poses and movement into our session to help you tap into the relationship between all the parts of yourself, body, heart, and mind. The final two hours of the session will be dedicated to an extended restorative yoga practice designed to settle the nervous system and allow you to move your awareness inward with compassion.
